Gaylord boxes

Reusable gaylord boxes (bulk bins, usually sized to a 48 × 40 in pallet) are bought per box by size, number of walls and condition. Damaged ones have no reuse value and are worth what their weight fetches as baled cardboard. A buy-back agreement should say how boxes are graded and what happens to rejects.

Updated

1

What sets the price of a used gaylord?

Footprint and height, wall count (thicker walls carry more), whether flaps and bottom are intact, and how clean and dry the box is. The bid form uses these conditions: like new, used (clean and sound), fair (marks, minor damage) and damaged.

2

Box buy-back or bale?

A sound gaylord sold for reuse usually earns more than its weight as cardboard. A damaged one does not. Agree that rejected boxes are baled with your OCC rather than charged for, and that the buyer tells you how many were rejected.

3

How should boxes be prepared?

Flattened and stacked on a pallet in counted bundles, dry, empty and free of tape-on liners if the buyer asks. Agree the count per bundle and per pickup.
